The buildings at Birkenau are made of wood, and are not insulated like the barracks at Auschwitz. The bathrooms facilities you see here is what the prisoners had to use in even the most brutal of conditions. Needless to say, I was emotionally drained that day.
Date: 09/01/2009

Gravesites are generally crammed next to each other in a small yard next to a church. It was interesting to walk around and observe the age of some of the stones. Despite the morbidity of the subject, there are quite beautiful scenes in these cemeteries.
Date: 09/01/2009

The walls are covered in the photos that the Nazis took of prisoners who were imprisoned in the camp. The SS took very detailed documentation on all of their activities. These hall were former barracks for the prisoners. It's especially eerie to see flowers tacked above a photo. What a sick place.
Date: 09/01/2009
