Western Lowland Gorillas

While Mike and Abe headed to Legoland, April and I took a free ride to the Safari Park with my friend Sarah and her daughter J (many thanks S'bult!). The gorillas were probably my favorites mainly because of the 5 month old little Monroe. So cute!

I had never seen one of these before. It reminded me of the book "The Whingdongdilly" by Bill Peet (good call on the author S'bult!).

The Ladies

Nothing like trekking two almost two year olds around the park. April and J are only 10 days (and 10 pounds) apart.

Dog and Cheetah

We were surprised to see the park staff walking around a cheetah on a leash. Evidentally they do this every day to help stretch their muscles. We learned that dogs and cheetahs are actually common companions; when the dog is calm, the cheetah is calm. Who knew? (And how in the world did they figure that out?) In this particular case, Animal Planet was filming a segmant, but it was the dog that was the star.

Giraffes

I was impressed with the sheer number of giraffes they had. I think I counted 14 of them.

Legoland

Mike and Abe raced the day away at Legoland and spared no expense (good thing the ladies' day was free). Face-painting, a sword/shield set, and more I'm sure. He came back bright-eyed and exhausted. Had a blast.
