I love how everyone is naturally drawn to babies. It doesn't matter your age, gender, culture or up-bringing, there is just something about babies that makes people want to smile at them, touch them, love them. I love how God made us to inantely crave new life!

Holly's youngest is a recent addition to their family. Laudi come from Haiti; she is a survivor of the earthquake and has quite a story in finding herself into their home. What a sweet and beautiful child of God she is.

a new-found joy - We were trying to figure out at what age babies realize that the figure in the mirror is them and not another baby. Thoughts?

  I think it's somewhere between 6 and 12 months if I remember right, depending on the baby. The way to test it is to put something on her face (like makeup or paint a smiley on her cheek) and see if she reaches for the mirror to try to get it or her own face.

It was sad for me to see that at age six Levi is still dealing with what we deal with all the time with Abe. That is, not being tall enough to do things he wants to. I had so hoped it would end soon, but sounds like we have quite a few more years to go.

My parents treated us all to pizza at a local pizza chain. Clearly they aren't shy about their political views. Their menu is also the strictest I've seen - as is, no substitutions, etc. Good pizza though. Very good.

Great Lakes Exhibit

It was a very impressive exhibit that took into account the topography and size of the lakes. The kids loved it and it was neat to see a "working" scale model of The Great Lakes.

They put some colored crystals in the marsh area on the way to the Farm Gardens. Poor choice of color though because it made it look like they put trash bags in there.

Near the "big horse" is a fun grass hill that you can roll down. Abe and Paige were more interested in pulling the grass together. Just like Abe and Mallory played so well together in Ohio, Abe and Paige were good buds too.

...play in the sand. When I lived in Michigan I really took for granted how nice it was to have a large, fresh-water lake nearby with such amazing beaches. Perfect for swimming and playing.

Since Abe and April are almost exactly 2.5 years apart, we did their pictures at the same time (Abe's 3 year and April's 6 month). Everything just worked for all these pictures. Happy kids, great lighting, and I had even remember to bring nice clothes along to the beach "just in case" things were right for pictures. His three year pictures. Getting a natural smile from him can be a challenge right now. If he is cooperating, his forced smile looks just that, forced. I was SO happy with these pictures!! His smile was perfect and so was the lighting. Love, love, love these pictures! This one is our favorite of the set.

We couldn't have asked for a more well-behaved and adjusted dog. He did fabulous with all the transitions and change. Grandpa took a special loving on him and made it no secret that he wished we would leave him there in Michigan.

I love this picture because it reminds me of the "conversation" Shelly had with April while she was holding her. Basically she was asking April what in the world she had going on with her hair. (April was born with a full head of hair but then lost/thinned all of it except a patch in the back. That patch stuck straight up until it grew long enough to fall over, which it does now.) Cracks me up!

Hot Tub

It was really too hot to use the hot tub this trip. I didn't even get in it once. This particular morning however was just cool enough so the kids (and Grandma) could enjoy it.

I really started to push "solids" with April while we were at my parents'. Focusing on rice cereal mixed with breast milk, April didn't seem very interested, much to my surprise and dismay. It wasn't until a week or more after we got home that I discovered the girl wants chunks of food, not mush. Picky, picky.

Kids Night

At the fair grounds a couple of local churches hosted a free kids night full of fun, activities and prizes. They had free dinner, haircuts, and lots of games to play and things to do. Here Ryan is on the climbing wall.

Model Train Set

A neighbor of my parents has a very impressive model train set in their basement. It's "the Grandpa's" hobby and they'll even plan vacation around riding on famous trains. All the kids loved watching it work, and Abe especially. You could tell they loved having the kids over to see it.
