Funny story here. Well, maybe. I was on top of the tall dune (a 1.2 mile hike up 800 feet of soft sand -- I'm going back in the fall to retrieve my lung) watching the sun dip below the clouds for the perfect light, when I decided it probably wasn't going to get much better. I headed down the hill about 100 feet to catch some other shots I saw. After a few minutes I glance left to see the most glorious light I have ever seen in my entire life bouncing off the dunes, catching the clouds, lighting the mountains, but alas, I cannot see the sunset due to the tall dune now blocking my view. I glance opposite the dune, and the light there is just as sweet! It was one of those 360 degree moments you just cannot miss as a photographer. Well, apparently some of us can miss it. I huffed my way back up 100' of soft sand as fast as I can. Wheeze, hack, cramp, made it ... just in time ... to realize ... I'm a minute late. The dunes photo you see is about a 160', and it's the one I said couldn't get any better.
I made sure the student with the new Nikon D200 got the shot.
