St. Elmo Schoolhouse Outhouse

2006-04-28 St. Elmo Schoolhouse Outhouse

This is the boys outhouse behind the newly restored St. Elmo schoolhouse. One thing I observed while seeing all these century old houses was that the outhouses were always higher in elevation than the homes they serviced. Does anyone know why this is? Is it easier to find in a blizzard?

Gosh, you'd think they'd want it downhill, to make sure they don't get any "runoff" if it rains a lot!
