At the very last minute, we decided to visit Iao Needle, a merely slightly rewarding experience. I was more interested in the man who brought his (?) six kids to bathe, shampoo and all, in the stream.

That's a really lovely spot. Sans bridge, it reminds of something from Lost. Which, incidentally, is filmed in Hawaii, but Oahu, not Maui, I believe.
