The Coolest Dog I've Ever Met
Abe gets so much air time that I thought I'd shine the spot light on Dexter for a change. This last year and a half has held quite a few changes for the pup (moving twice and then a new "litter mate") and he has more than lived up to the dog we expected him to be. As I'm sure you've seen from the videos and pictures, Dexter adores Abe and Abe adores Dexter. With the exception of sometimes wanting to love on the other too much (Abe by following Dexter everywhere and Dexter by licking Abe silly.), they seem to be quite compatible and easy friends.
Thought I'd share a Dexter story just to brag about how great my dog is (It's always my dog and my kid. It's Mike's camera.).
Mike's dad was in town last week. We'd all finished dinner and while Mike was bathing Abe, Roger and I were cleaning up the kitchen. I was getting Dexter's dinner for him and had mixed in some yummy left over fish with his dry food. While I was filling his bowl, I made him sit and stay so he wouldn't crowd me. Once I had filled his bowl, I went back to unloading the dishwasher and chatting with Roger. After a half hour (okay, really only a couple minutes) Roger glanced over and noticed that Dexter had not yet touched his food. He was still waiting for my "okay!" that would release him from the "stay" command that I had given. I had completely forgotten and the poor dog was obediently waiting to eat his meal. Roger was duly impressed.
My expectations of Dexter have now risen to a new level and I'm beginning to wonder if he's not capable of way more than I think he is. Maybe we can teach him to run to the store or change Abe's diaper. I could teach him to paint my toenails or iron our shirts. The possibilities are endless. There just may be something to the intelligence behind those eyes...

Love the picture and update!
Your hard work and training are showing! I feel proud of YOU!
However, don't count on the new level...unless of course you can teach him to vacuum?!
