New England
The first week of April we headed up to the chilly north to see visit my sister and her family. Originally just the kids and I were going to go, but since we got such good prices on tickets, Mike was able to join. This was April’s first flight and the first flight that Abe remembers being on. Both kids did fantastic. We had one moment on the return flight where I had to hold April at the back of the plane (over-tired), but once she got a brief nap in, the rest of the day was smooth (wiggly, but happy).
Jill continues to insist that we need to visit in the fall instead, but since this is when Mom’s spring break is, well, that usually trumps more promising weather. Just a couple hours after we flew in it started to snow. We refer to it as “the perfect snow”. It started that evening and by morning there was about 4 to 6 inches on the ground. And it was the good, heavy stuff! Perfect for building a tall (Dutch) snow family and a snow ball fight. And then that afternoon, it all melted! The perfect snow!

Fun things included swimming at the ‘Y’ (while the cousins had their swim lessons), bowling and lunch at Friendly’s (thanks Grandma!), playing at the park, lunch at the Lilac Blossom (thanks again Grandma!), and shopping at the outlet mall.
On Wednesday Mike and I were able to get away for a day in Boston (sans kids) to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. We both went to Boston about 3 years ago in the cold and wind and rain. The weather this time was beautiful! We started at Bunker Hill Monument, then toured the U.S.S. Constitution, had lunch and Mike’s pastries, and then some shopping by Faneuil Hall. We took a short stroll around Harvard and then it was time to head back. It was so nice to get away on an extended date, and I must confess, it went just a little too fast. Especially since the kids both did so great with my sister and Mom. (We weren’t sure how things would go with April since she’s developed a sudden glue-like attachment to me. However, it seems that if I’m gone she does fantastic!)

It’s always so much fun visiting and always hard to leave. Makes me wish they still lived in San Antonio, or at least driving distance. Abe had a blast playing with his cousins. Ryan, Kendra and Levi are all so great at playing with both Abe and April despite the age difference. And for me, well time with Jill and Mom is certainly cherished. Jill has more pictures of things that I didn’t catch (swimming for example), so I’ll include hers in the album when I get them. For now, go here to see all of our pictures.
