Kite Festival

by jodi on April 10th, 2010

In mid-March we went to one of my favorite events in Austin – the kite festival!  It was a gorgeous day with just enough wind to have most all kites air borne.  It was also one of our first major family events since April’s birth.  It was crazy busy and I’m really glad we went earlier rather than later.  There were a TON of people there and parking was just plain madness.  Here are some pictures from the day:  Picture 1 – An overall shot of Zilker with the Austin skyline in the background.  It really is quite beautiful with all those kites!  Picture 2 – Some fun flags.Picture 3:  Our plane kite made it’s virgin flight!  I spent most of the flight trying to avoid getting the plane entangled in the big knot of kites that was flying above us (I’d guess about 4 or more kites were participating in that mess!).

Picture 4:  Family shot!

Picture 5:  It felt like I spent most of the time making sure April wasn’t over-heating and Abe wasn’t getting lost in the sea of people.  Here is a picture of April relaxing in the shade; Abe was too busy for a picture (I tried without success).

Picture 6:  On our way back to our car we stopped at this crazy bus.  It was clearly there to catch your attention and draw you in to see it.  From it’s name, “Peacemaker” we correctly discerned that it’s purpose was evangelistic in nature, so we decided to stop in.  The bus (which was actually two buses morphed together) was even more beautiful inside – we should have tried some pictures but it felt weird to do so.  Turns out it is owned by a group called The Twelve Tribes. We haven’t read up much on them, so take this as a disclaimer that we aren’t promoting nor discrediting them.
