Double Meme
Ok, I’m doubling up on the memes. I got one a while back from my friend Chris and just yesterday got one from my other friend Micah. I never know how to feel about these things. This blog is mostly for me, though I do catch myself looking at stats every once in a while. It feels good to know that others are aware of my existance. I even found myself wanting some comment spam for a while there…that is until I started actually getting it.
Ok, on to the real stuff…
Movies
Total number of films I own on DVD and video:
I wish I owned a whole lot more. I have 30-something. The best purchases among these includes:
- The Incredibles — amazing! It’s not just eye candy. There’s a real story here complete with realistic family dynamics. These guys did The Iron Giant, which everyone should see.
- Shoalin Soccer (the original awesome Hong Kong release, not the Americanized crapola Miramax managed to flush into the half-dozen or so unmarketed theaters)
- Heat (I like the well-done epics, like Traffic).
Next up to buy is definitely Ong Bak. No wire-fu in this one! Pure martial arts, baby.
Last film I bought:
Wow. Not sure. Believe it or not, I think it was Silverado. How often do you see Kevin Kline in a western role…well, besides the horrible Wild Wild West?
Last film I watched:
I made Jodi watch Full Metal Jacket and Human Nature recently. I have some work ahead in restoring her trust in my movie-picking abilities.
Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Not sure exactly what to say here. I don’t think movies “mean a lot to me” in the emotional sense. I do enjoy the epics, especially the ones that deal with historical events or current events. So, here we go, in no particular order:
- Saving Private Ryan
- Schindler’s List
- Heat
- Traffic
- The Incredibles
Music
Total volume of music files on my computer:
Less than 8g, hardly any of which I ever listen to. I’m not much of a listen-to-music-at-my-computer type of guy. I have some data CDs I’ve filled with MP3s to play in the truck, so maybe that counts for something? With the CDs, it probably comes out to 11g or so.
Last CD I bought:
Joe Ely’s “Lord of the Highway”. Support your local musician! I just discovered the energy of his live shows. I see now why this guy keeps playing. I just get the sense that he really loves what he’s doing. (As a side note, the site linked appears to be the official Joe Ely site and claims “Official HomePage of Joe Ely
: On Line Since 1983.” I didn’t really think that was possible. Maybe he worked on ARPANET?)
Song playing right now:
Psycho Killer by Talking Heads. I didn’t really know much about Talking Heads except for “Burning Down the House” until a few years ago. I’ve barely been able to go a week without listening to them since. The radio play for Talking Heads is just a teeny sampling of their talent. Most of their best stuff is in the b-sides.
Five songs I listen to a lot these days
My styles are very diverse. Right now, I’m listening to the album we made for our wedding, which includes some fantastic wedding songs everyone should include in the event somewhere:
- “My Wife Thinks You’re Dead” by Junior Brown
- “Little Ways” by Dwight Yoakum
- “There Goes the Bride” by The Derailers
- “All Just to Get to You” by Joe Ely
- “What Would Willie Do” by Bruce Robison
Ok, I don’t know who’s been tagged and who hasn’t, so I’m gonna just tag people and let them sort it out. I tag my cousin Angie whom I just discovered was online and Travis.

Right on! The Incredibles ROCK! I’m gonna name my son Dash. So do the Talking Heads! And you’re absolutely correct, the radio play stuff is just a teaser, the good stuff is beneath the surface.
I’ll start droppping by once a week or so to leave you some comment spam, just so you don’t feel lonley. Ha ha.
I’ll never forget all the “odd” and “wacky” music you introduced me to when we were kids. Thank you -Thank you – Thank you!
