You’re Not Paranoid if They’re Really Out to Get You

by mike on November 5th, 2004

I’m not generally one for conspiracies, but it has crossed my mind that 9/11 could have been a huge conspiracy to jump-start the economy (which backfired) or be used as an excuse for war. Recently, I was introduced to a video that claims in regard to the crash at the Pentagon, “in reality, a Boeing 757 was never found.” At a minimum, it’s interesting viewing. However, in thinking about the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11, I do not recall seeing parts of any airplane. I realize most of a large aircraft would be destroyed if it struck a fortified structure at 500+ mph, but shouldn’t we see some portion of the tail, or a wing, or something?
And why did Bin Laden pop up a mere four days before the US presidential election after having been in hiding for almost a year? Coincidence or conspiracy?
Anyway, check out the video and tell me what you think. If it’s on the Internet, it must be true.

I definitely don’t fall into the camp of thinking 9/11 was a conspiracy, but must admit that the video reminded me of questions that I had about the Pentagon when 9/11 happened.
The first truly was, “Where’s the plane?” Others: Why didn’t we hear more about the huge breach in security for that plane not to have been shot down BEFORE it hit the pentagon? Why did everything seem to focus on the Towers (more people lost) and so little on the Pentagon? While definitely tragic, the Pentagon is a Federal Bldg. where security should have been at it’s best. I must confess, my interest is piqued.

  2. The other day on TV I again saw that series of time-lapse photos from outside the Pentagon, and asked the same thing: where’s the plane?!? You just see the building, then an explosion. Most peculiar. If any one out there has an explanation for why this is, I’d be VERY interested to hear it.

  3. Well, I did a search myself, and found something on “Snopes,” the internet’s urban-legend-debunker:
    http://www.snopes2.com/rumors/pentagon.htm
They have some explanations, but there’s still the matter of that video that shows an explosion but no plane, which is just spooky-looking. Guess that’s just one of those things…

  4. Considering the outer wall of the Pentagon was 24-inch steel reinforced concrete, and that the plane was travelling 350 mph, it doesn’t surprise me that little of it was found.
The overhead shots seem to show that the plane struck the helipad, not the lawn as some witnesses had described. One of the major points of the conspiratists is that the lawn was not damaged – and that the photos prove it. Well, the photos were of the undamaged lawn that the plane did not strike.
I like Snopes.com and respect what they do, but even so, they are just another opinion on the internet, where we all know only mine really counts.
Good to see you, Micah! Hope the baby’s well.

    My motto in life.
If that theory appeals to you, perhaps you’d enjoy Fahrenheit 9/11.
