Complete! … and Walmart lament

by mike on December 15th, 2003

We got most of this stuff done that we wanted to do on Saturday. We didn’t get tuxedo rentals done because the woman in the Ascot Tuxedo location we went to was incredibly lazy. It felt as though we were intruding on her time. We asked if we could see different color shirts with a particular tux…and she explained very curtly that the way the tux is on the mannequin is the way it comes. After loudly telling Jodi that maybe we should go to a different location, the saleswomen seemed to agree that, yes, it might be possible to rent another color shirt with the tux we wanted. I guess her work life would be a whole lot better if it weren’t for us demanding customers. hmph.
We didn’t do cakes either, but that can wait. We do have new cell phones! It is a TON better than the old one I had; better reception, better clarity. Jodi and I got the same phone. It has a camera on it, so we’ve been taking pictures of people who are in our phone book so their faces pop up on the caller id. A fluff feature who’s novelty will quickly wear off. It’ll be nice to be able to send a picture of something I want to buy for approval, but Sprint charges for that.
We were gonna go Christmas shopping today after church, so we made a quick stop at Walmart (a store we both detest, for several reasons). This was a mistake. The traffic, both out on the streets, and in the store was horrible. I’m convinced that the apparent poverty-stricken families with children under three wait until someone starts crying, then piles in the green 1982 Suburban to head to Wally-world so they can take the shoes off their kids with two-day-old Kool-aid mustaches and have them annoy everyone.
Tonight we just played cards + 42 (aka bones) at the bachelor pad. They have a mini-fridge in their living room with beer. How great is that?!

  1. It’s true, I really do. I don’t like shopping at either of the ones on I-35, but their prices are outstanding and I admire their behemoth-ness.
I’ve had the same battles as you at Ascot. Did you go to the one in Lincoln Village? Actually, I’m convinced there is no good place to rent a tuxedo. The last time I went to Gingiss they managed to totally hose my order.
I’m about to get a new cell as well, but I’ve just about convinced myself to be boring. I really wanted the new Treo 600, but I’ve read enough reports of trouble that I’m going to wait until the next generation (again).
